Macrons in Maori language

The State Services Commission supports the use of macrons in Maori language, and uses macrons in all Maori text in its internal and external published documents.

On websites, however, the ability to display macrons is limited by current technology and a lack of standardisation. If vowels with macrons are used, it cannot currently be guaranteed that Maori words will appear correctly on all browser platforms.

For this reason, the Commission is not using macrons on its website at this time but is committed to incorporating macrons as soon as it can be assured they will display correctly across all browser platforms.

Optional formats - which should you choose?

The State Services Commission aims to provide all content on this website in HTML (Hypertext Markup Language).

In addition, documents and publications are published in a second format - PDF (Portable Document Format).

Use of PDF files on this site

The PDF format is used on the SSRSS website to enable site users to view, download and print publications and documents largely as they appear in print.

PDF format is further used to protect the legality of documents under the Securities Act 1978. Documents such as investment statements are the property not of the State Services Commission (SSC), but of the individual scheme providers (AMP, ASB and AXA) and none of the text, photographs or imagery in these documents can be altered unless the documents are formally re-certified under the Securities Act 1978 by, or on behalf of, those schemes' trustees.

Use of PDF for investment statements, change of investment scheme forms and employer checklists also ensures uniformity and means that people relying on such documents can be assured that they have not been altered in any way.

PDF files made available on this site are in Adobe Reader version 7.0.

Adobe Acrobat Reader

PDF files on this website are created using Adobe Acrobat software. Adobe Acrobat Reader is necessary to view them, and can be downloaded free of charge from the Adobe website.
